AHI Welcomes University of Pireas Student Group, Former MEP Candidate to Hellenic HouseWASHINGTON, DC —The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) welcomed visitors to Hellenic House on two occasions in November. AHI hosted a student group from the University of Pireas on its inaugural trip to Washington, D.C., November 17. The group consisted of graduate students studying political science, international relations and other related fields. The group visits the United States annually, usually to New York City. However this was the group’s first trip to Washington to attend the Conference on Critical Issues in the Eastern Mediterranean co-organized by the University of Pireas, the Begin-Sadat Center, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. AHI President Nick Larigakis reviewed the role AHI plays in Washington as well as the challenges Greece faces in meeting its policy goals in Washington. Zoi Apostolopoulou, who was a candidate for European Parliament for To Potami in 2014, visited Hellenic House on November 18. Apostolopoulou is a lawyer who specializes in European Union law. “We were pleased to welcome the University of Pireas student group and Ms. Apostolopoulou to Hellenic House,” President Larigakis said. “We thank them for taking time from their busy schedules to visit with us and to discuss issues affecting Greece and the eastern Mediterranean.” AHI Legislative Director Georgea Polizos attended both meetings.
The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American think-tank and public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
